Detailed Itinerary: The 85th Anniversary ANZAC Trail

Day 1: Arrival in Athens – The Legacy Begins Welcome to Greece! Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, your private driver will escort you to your hotel in the heart of the city. In the afternoon, we gather for a welcoming briefing and a gentle stroll through the historic Plaka district, walking the same streets where ANZAC soldiers spent their final nights of leave in 1941.

  • Dinner: Welcome Dinner at a traditional tavern with a majestic view of the Acropolis.

  • Accommodation: Hotel Athens (4*).

Day 2: Athens – Phaleron & The Acropolis. We start our pilgrimage at the Phaleron War Cemetery. We will attend a private wreath-laying ceremony among the 2,000+ Commonwealth graves, paying our respects to the fallen Australians and New Zealanders. In the afternoon, we ascend the Acropolis to witness the Parthenon, a symbol of democracy that the ANZACs were sent to protect.

Day 3: The Thermopylae Line & Brallos Pass A full-day expedition to the mainland. We visit the historic pass of Thermopylae, where in 1941, the 2nd ANZAC Corps echoed the legendary bravery of Leonidas and his 300 Spartans. We will explore the Brallos Pass, where the 6th Australian Division held a heroic rearguard action against overwhelming odds to allow the evacuation of Allied forces.

Day 4: Flight to Lemnos – The Gallipoli Connection. We take a short internal flight to the island of Lemnos. This island was the primary base for the 1915 Gallipoli campaign. We visit Mudros Bay, the vast natural harbor that once held hundreds of Allied ships, and walk the shores where the ANZAC legend was born.

  • Lunch: Fresh seafood at the picturesque Mudros Port.

Day 5: Lemnos – The Nursing Sisters & Portianou Today is dedicated to the medical history of the ANZACs. We visit the East Mudros Military Cemetery and pay tribute to the Australian Nursing Sisters who served under unimaginable conditions. We also visit the Lemnos ANZAC Research Centre in Portianou to see rare archives and photos.

Day 6: Flight to Crete – The “Great Island” We fly to Chania, Crete, via Athens. Upon arrival, you will feel the unique energy of the “Great Island.” After checking in, enjoy free time to explore the Venetian Harbor, where history meets the turquoise Cretan sea.

Day 7: The Battle of Crete – Maleme & Hill 107 A day of deep historical significance. We walk the Maleme Airfield, the epicenter of the German paratrooper invasion in May 1941. Standing on Hill 107, you will gain a tactical understanding of the fierce battle. We also visit the German War Cemetery to reflect on the immense scale of the conflict.

  • Lunch: Private lunch at a local winery surrounded by olive groves.

Day 8: Souda Bay & The Galatas Heights. We visit the Souda Bay War Cemetery, often cited as the most beautiful Commonwealth cemetery in the world. We then head to the village of Galatas, the site of some of the most intense hand-to-hand combat of the campaign, where the bond between Cretans and ANZACs was forged in blood.

  • Lunch: On your own in the charming alleys of Chania.

Day 9: Preveli Monastery & The Great Escape. We travel to the rugged south coast of Crete to visit the Preveli Monastery. This sacred site was a hub for the resistance; we will learn about the daring Allied submarine evacuations and meet locals whose families risked everything to hide ANZAC soldiers in caves and sheepfolds.

  • Dinner: Farewell Gala Dinner with live traditional Cretan music and dancing.

▶Day 1. Airport -Arrival

Welcome to Athens! In the city that gave birth to Greek culture and was the point of reference for the entire world. The driver will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

Overnight: Athens

▶Day 2 Athens – Corinth Canal – Epidaurus – Nafplio – Mycenae

Depart from Athens and make a stop at the Corinth Canal. Then, continue to Epidaurus to explore the ancient theater renowned for its exceptional acoustics. Afterward, head to the town of Nauplia for a brief visit, then journey through the plain of Argos to Mycenae. Explore the archaeological site and the Tomb of Agamemnon to gain insight into classical Greek culture. In the afternoon, travel to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, for an overnight stay.

▶Day 3. Visit Olympia – Delphi

Following breakfast, visit the archaeological site of Olympia to see the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic flame, the Stadium, and the archaeological Museum. Travel through Patras to Rion, and cross the Corinthian Bay via the famed bridge to Antirion. Pass by the city of Nafpaktos and continue along the coastal road to Delphi, known in ancient times as the navel of the world. In the afternoon, explore the charming mountain village of Arachova for an overnight stay in Delphi or Itea.

▶Day 4. Visit the archaeological site of Delphi

Embark on an early departure to explore the archaeological site and the Museum of Delphi, a significant UNESCO world heritage site in Europe. Delphi, historically recognized as the center of the world, boasts various ancient attractions such as Castalia spring, the monument of the Argive Kings, the treasury of the Athenians, and the Temple of Apollo renowned for its oracle. The Delphi museum showcases remarkable exhibits including the frieze of the Treasury of the Sifnians, the Naxian Sphinx, and the famous bronze Charioteer. Following an optional lunch at a traditional Delphi restaurant, you will return to Athens, arriving in the early evening.

▶Day 5. Athens – Acropolis – Embarkation at Marina Zeas – Poros

Pick up from Athens to the embarkation at Marina Zea in Athens, between 2 and 3 pm. Enjoy a welcome drink and meet your crew and fellow passengers. Sail to Poros for a short 3-hour visit, before setting sail to Poliegos.

▶Day 6. Poliegos – Folegandros

Morning arrival in Poliegos, an uninhabited island known for its amazing beaches and turquoise waters. Morning swim stop followed by a BBQ on deck. Afternoon sailing to Folegandros, one of the most amazing and less known islands in the Aegean Sea. Walk the amazing Upper city and have the possibility to taste delicacies at traditional Greek taverns.

▶Day 7. Santorini

Morning arrival in Santorini (occasionally at anchor) to explore its unique capital, Fira. Join us for a wonderful guided tour of this incredible island. Apart from taking you to the best spots only the locals know, our guide will share with you his intimate knowledge of the history, culture, and customs of Santorini. Our first stop is Firostefani, a place well known for the famous blue dome church, where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the volcanic caldera. The village of Oia is a top destination for the visitors of Santorini, and our guide will take you to the best spots of the picturesque village. We will visit the old Venetian castle, and perhaps be able to explore its interior (this depends on the guard’s availability). You will also have free time to stroll around the town and enjoy refreshments by the caldera. At an altitude of 560 meters, Profitis Ilias offers a unique 360° panoramic view of the island and is the ideal spot to take amazing photos. We will visit the 300-year-old Monastery at the site and taste some of the local delicacies and handmade products made there.  Located on the southern edge of the island, the impressive Bronze Age site of Akrotiri is also known as the “prehistoric Pompeii”. In Akrotir, i you get to understand the tremendous effect the volcanic eruption of the 17th century BC had on the island. Excavations have revealed that prehistoric Akrotiri was a very sophisticated society. We explore the ancient city that was frozen in time because of the volcanic eruption, walk through its stone-paved streets and squares where two- and three-story houses were built with worked stone and richly decorated with figural wall paintings.

▶Day 8. Paros – Naousa

In the morning, enjoy a swim and stop in an enchanting bay of Antiparos. Arrive in Paros around noon, where you can enjoy lunch at leisure before joining us for our afternoon tour. Optional Tour, visit the famous Byzantine Church of Ekatondapiliani, the “Lady of the hundred doors”, one of the greatest early Christian monuments in Greece. Leaving the Church, we wander through the narrow streets of Parikia and visit the Venetian Castle. On the way to Naoussa, we invite you to enjoy a “Wine Tasting” in one of the most famous Family Winery, Cave Moraiti, which is totally devoted and dedicated to tradition and which produce and bottles Parian Wine since 1910. Continuing, we reach the lovely little fishing village of Naoussa, where we will walk through the narrow streets, admire the whitewashed houses, and discover the small harbour area with its dozens of little fishing boats. Join the crew onboard for a fun Greek night and dinner.

An optional morning tour to the unique archaeological site of Delos, antiquity’s most sacred island. Later on, we stop at one of Mykonos beautiful bays for swimming off the ship before sailing into the port of Mykonos. The island of the jet setters is yours to explore, and the night is young.

▶Day 11. Syros, The Cinderella of the Cyclades

On this half-day tour, you will discover a unique fusion of architectural wonders, breathtaking vistas, and the irresistible charm of Greek summer. Wander among the Neoclassical buildings of Hermoupolis and its majestic cathedral of St Nicholas with its lavish interiors, but also the iconic Apollon Theater built in 1864 by Pietro Sampo, explore the charming narrow alleys of Ano Syros, and soak in the beauty of Syros picturesque villages. You will also visit a remarkable Neoclassical mansion where the walls are adorned with scenic paintings, and the ceilings are adorned with intricate plasterwork. Leaving the town center, our journey takes us to the old town of Syros, the medieval settlement of Ano Syros. Upon arrival, we will enter the settlement at the top of the hill. Here, we will explore notable landmarks, including the Cathedral of St. George and the church of St. John, which dates back to 1635. We walk leisurely and wander around the picturesque center of the settlement known as “Piatsa,” where quaint shops await our discovery. Finally, following our exploration of Ano Syros, we will embark on a bus tour through the Neoclassical Villages of Syros, where historic mansions hold captivating tales of their own. Tonight, join us for a culinary experience to taste authentic Cycladic cuisine at a small family taverna

In the morning, we will arrive in Kythnos, where you will enjoy a swim in Kolones bay and will then set sail for Marina Zea, where we will arrive in the late afternoon via Cape Sounion, the temple of Poseidon. Captain’s Farewell Dinner and overnight in Marina Zea.

▶Day 3. Visit Olympia – Delphi

Following breakfast, visit the archaeological site of Olympia to see the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic flame, the Stadium, and the archaeological Museum. Travel through Patras to Rion, and cross the Corinthian Bay via the famed bridge to Antirion. Pass by the city of Nafpaktos and continue along the coastal road to Delphi, known in ancient times as the navel of the world. In the afternoon, explore the charming mountain village of Arachova for an overnight stay in Delphi or Itea.

▶Day 4. Visit the archaeological site of Delphi

Embark on an early departure to explore the archaeological site and the Museum of Delphi, a significant UNESCO World Heritage site in Europe. Delphi, historically recognized as the center of the world, boasts various ancient attractions such as Castalia spring, the monument of the Argive Kings, the treasury of the Athenians, and the Temple of Apollo, renowned for its oracle. The Delphi museum showcases remarkable exhibits, including the frieze of the Treasury of the Sifnians, the Naxian Sphinx, and the famous bronze Charioteer. Following an optional lunch at a traditional Delphi restaurant, you will return to Athens, arriving in the early evening.

▶Day 5. Athens – Acropolis – Embarkation at Marina Zeas – Poros

Pick up from Athens to the embarkation at Marina Zea in Athens, between 2 and 3 pm. Enjoy a welcome drink and meet your crew and fellow passengers. Sail to Poros for a short 3-hour visit, before setting sail to Poliegos.

▶Day 6. Poliegos – Folegandros

Morning arrival in Poliegos, an uninhabited island known for its amazing beaches and turquoise waters. Morning swim stop followed by a BBQ on deck. Afternoon sailing to Folegandros, one of the most amazing and least known islands in the Aegean Sea. Walk the amazing Upper city and have the possibility to taste delicacies at traditional Greek taverns.

▶Day 7. Santorini

Morning arrival in Santorini (occasionally at anchor) to explore its unique capital, Fira. Join us for a wonderful guided tour of this incredible island. Apart from taking you to the best spots only the locals know, our guide will share with you his intimate knowledge of the history, culture, and customs of Santorini. Our first stop is Firostefani, a place well known for the famous blue dome church, where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the volcanic caldera. The village of Oia is a top destination for the visitors of Santorini, and our guide will take you to the best spots of the picturesque village. We will visit the old Venetian castle, and perhaps be able to explore its interior (this depends on the guard’s availability). You will also have free time to stroll around the town and enjoy refreshments by the caldera. At an altitude of 560 meters, Profitis Ilias offers a unique 360° panoramic view of the island and is the ideal spot to take amazing photos. We will visit the 300-year-old Monastery at the site and taste some of the local delicacies and handmade products made there.  Located on the southern edge of the island, the impressive Bronze Age site of Akrotiri is also known as the “prehistoric Pompeii”. In Akrotir, i you get to understand the tremendous effect the volcanic eruption of the 17th century BC had on the island. Excavations have revealed that prehistoric Akrotiri was a very sophisticated society. We explore the ancient city that was frozen in time because of the volcanic eruption, walk through its stone-paved streets and squares where two- and three-story houses were built with worked stone and richly decorated with figural wall paintings.

▶Day 8. Paros – Naousa

In the morning, enjoy a swim and stop in an enchanting bay of Antiparos. Arrive in Paros around noon, where you can enjoy lunch at leisure before joining us for our afternoon tour.( Optional Tour)Visit the famous Byzantine Church of Ekatondapiliani, the “Lady of the hundred doors”, one of the greatest early Christian monuments in Greece. Leaving the Church, we wander through the narrow streets of Parikia and visit the Venetian Castle. On the way to Naoussa, we invite you to enjoy a “Wine Tasting” in one of the most famous Family Winery, Cave Moraiti, which is totally devoted and dedicated to tradition and which produce and bottles Parian Wine since 1910. Continuing, we reach the lovely little fishing village of Naoussa, where we will walk through the narrow streets, admire the whitewashed houses, and discover the small harbour area with its dozens of little fishing boats. Join the crew onboard for a fun Greek night and dinner.

▶Day 10. Delos-Mykonos

An optional morning tour to the unique archaeological site of Delos, antiquity’s most sacred island. Later on, we stop at one of Mykonos beautiful bays for swimming off the ship before sailing into the port of Mykonos. The island of the jet setters is yours to explore, and the night is young.

▶Day 11. Syros, The Cinderella of the Cyclades

On this half-day tour, you will discover a unique fusion of architectural wonders, breathtaking vistas, and the irresistible charm of Greek summer. Wander among the Neoclassical buildings of Hermoupolis and its majestic cathedral of St Nicholas with its lavish interiors, but also the iconic Apollon Theater built in 1864 by Pietro Sampo, explore the charming narrow alleys of Ano Syros, and soak in the beauty of Syros picturesque villages. You will also visit a remarkable Neoclassical mansion where the walls are adorned with scenic paintings, and the ceilings are adorned with intricate plasterwork. Leaving the town center, our journey takes us to the old town of Syros, the medieval settlement of Ano Syros. Upon arrival, we will enter the settlement at the top of the hill. Here, we will explore notable landmarks, including the Cathedral of St. George and the church of St. John, which dates back to 1635. We walk leisurely and wander around the picturesque center of the settlement known as “Piatsa,” where quaint shops await our discovery. Finally, following our exploration of Ano Syros, we will embark on a bus tour through the Neoclassical Villages of Syros, where historic mansions hold captivating tales of their own. Tonight, join us for a culinary experience to taste authentic Cycladic cuisine at a small family taverna

▶Day 9. Kythnos – Cape Sounion – Athens

In the morning, we will arrive in Kythnos, where you will enjoy a swim in Kolones bay and will then set sail for Marina Zea, where we will arrive in the late afternoon via Cape Sounion, the temple of Poseidon. Captain’s Farewell Dinner and overnight in Marina Zea.
